Chris O’Shea / UK

1. Open Source Sound Production in Digital Art

Chris O'Shea is a UK based digital artist that is interested in sound installations and responsive environments that use lo-fi appropriated technology. He will be presenting an open source research platform for audio visual performance using tangible interfaces. This installation piece allows anyone the freedom to make electronic sounds and perhaps music, with no technical ability needed. Rather than using predefined sound samples, sounds will be synthesised and visuals programmed. Details will be provided on how to make the physical interface, what hardware, software and processes are involved. Using free software such as Processing and Pure Data, artists, programmers and musicians can contribute and see their work running on the installation at various exhibitions. A limited edition run of CDs will be given away free to audience members containing the complete source code to this project, Creative Commons content and some free open source software.
