Commonwealth is the New York-based, product, art and design studio of Zoë Coombes & Francisco David Boira.
Knowing that even the most advanced tools can still yield average design solutions, our search is for elegant technique. We aim to operate in a manner that produces hybrids of the conceptual world of digital modeling, and the elegance of material world, all without surrendering to the imagined limits of either.
Digitally driven by nature, emerging production technologies have given us new means of relating across the various fields of design. Working with a spectrum of rapid prototyping tools, we have taken a step out of the normal pattern of design production, and forced the experimental and most importantly, the collaborative into the design office. Returning to the design of simple products, for us, the process is enriched.
Commonwealth has been operating since 2005.
